B-movies

You know, you have to watch an older, low-budget film once in a while to really appreciate the level of production that go into our modern mainstream movie. Tonight I watched "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". It was sooooo cheesy, Yet, I must say that it was a much better movie than Peter Jackson's first feature length film "Bad Taste". I mean by more than a mile. More like a hundred miles. Really, watching these killer tomatoes hearkens back to a specific childhood memory of mine. When I was 4 my family moved out of this duplex, and as we were moving our stuff out one Saturday morning, I recall sitting in front of the tv watching the animated television version of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". I had never been able to see the actual movie until now, and I must say that it was not half bad. For that sort of thing you know? The sort of movie where the bad guys are either close-up's of produce, or car-sized paper-mache recreations of said produce. All in all though, I think my favorite parts were the song and dance numbers. They cracked me up. Just so random. Poorly done, and random.
One thing you really have to appreciate though, is that there is none of that CGI or anything. A lot of the tomatoe scenes you think to yourself, "I could do that myself with just a camera, some tomatoes, a ton of craft supplies, and way too much spare time!"
